Back to projects SEA supported project: The Tidal Exchange Art Out West & Narra Bukulla Year Commenced: 2026 Project type: Artist In Residence Summary: The Tidal Exchange carries artists between the Central West and South East Arts regions of NSW. This exchange, supported by South East Arts and Arts OutWest , is hosted at The Squatters Artist is Residency (AIR) Program and Narra Bukulla Artist in Residency Program . Artists from the following LGAs are eligible to apply: Snowy Monaro Eurobodalla Bega Valley Bathurst Regional Blayney, Cabonne Cowra Forbes Lachlan Lithgow Mid-Western Regional Oberon Orange Parkes Weddin Enquiries about the The Tidal Exchange: Kate Bradbury, South East Arts: ed@southeastarts.org.au Narra Buukulla, Tanja (Far South Coast, NSW) Narra Bukulla is a privately-owned property adjacent to Mimosa Rocks National Park, south of Bermagui on the Far South Coast NSW. It provides artist's with a large studio a remote, bush setting. The artist’s workspace / studio at Narra Bukulla is peaceful, with high ceilings, large, long walls, an open floor space with roller-door access. Within a secluded forest of spotted gums, the artist studio is a walk or short drive to pristine beaches. The property has an established collection of site specific artworks created by family, friends and by commission. The ethos of the hosting family (who reside on the property) reflects four generations of passionate creativity and innovation in the arts, scientific research and architecture, all fostering sustainability initiatives. Artist accommodation is provided locally nearby. The living quarters are rudimentary, with semi-wheelchair access. Artists must bring a willingness to engage with outdoor environments — including the presence of wildlife such as snakes and spiders — and a sense of adaptability and openness to the experience are important. The Squatter’s Cottage, Portland ( Central Tablelands, NSW) Portland, NSW is a charming small village lost in time. Located in Central West NSW between Bathurst and Lithgow, it was known as the “The Town that Built Sydney”. The Squatter’s Cottage sits within The Foundations precinct in Portland, NSW, which was once a huge cement works. The quarries are now lakes, the large estate is lined with informal bushwalks and the gracious industrial buildings are aged. The Squat It has been named ‘The Squat’ or ‘The Squatter’s Cottage’ as it is a largely unrenovated character-full basic cottage. It leans into “art squat” subculture of making art in spaces and places that are vacant and affordable. It is not a purpose-built studio/accommodation residency. One resident has quipped “it is a step up from camping” and T. C. Overson the first AIR program National Art School prize recipient and later AIR program coordinator expressed “It’s a simple old place, yet full of character.” Many have found it to be the perfect space for a self-directed creative retreat. Originally the building was the first Bank of New South Wales in the town: The studio was the bank and the attached cottage was the manager’s home. Back to projects SEA supported project: BVSC Waste Truck Art Wrap BVSC Year Commenced: 2025 Project type: Partnership, Creative work, EOI Summary: BVSC and South East Arts commissioned original artwork to appear on 8 kerbside waste collection trucks from 2025–2034. South East Arts facilitated EOIs from artists to design a high-impact artwork for our new waste trucks that celebrates creativity + sustainability. The final design by Belinda Rosenbaum reflects our regions natural beauty; The 4Rs — Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle; and bold, optimistic message about waste and sustainability. Back to projects SEA supported project: Bega Streetlight Festival Bega Chamber of Commerce, BVSC Year Commenced: 2025 Project type: Event, Prizes & comps, Creative work, Partnership Summary: In 2025 we asked photographers to "Capture the authentic spirit of life in the Bega Valley Shire, from everyday moments to stunning landscapes". The resulting exhibition lit up Carp Street during the 2025 Bega Streetlight Festival and beyond! Following the huge success of the first Streetlight Festival in October of 2025, the 2026 event has been pulled forward to before daylight savings kicks in on September 25th. Also being darker earlier the lights and projections will shine even brighter.
