Gabrielle Journey Jones

Deputy Chair

Gabrielle Journey Jones joined the Board of South East Arts in March 2024. She is from Māori and African American bloodlines and has lived on the Far South Coast NSW Yuin Country since 2018. Gabrielle is a Social Worker with special interest in governance and is the Executive Officer of SEWACS Budjangal (South East Women and Children’s Services Inc).


Gabrielle has practiced intersectional feminist trauma-informed Social Work with a focus on creativity, advocacy and human rights for 20 years in Sydney. During the last 8 years, she has worked for community organisations and government agencies in Bega Valley and surrounding Local Government Areas.  


Gabrielle has both a Social Work private practice (supporting community sector workers and Charles Sturt University students with clinical supervision; and consultation services on organisational governance) and professional performing and creative arts career which combines therapeutic interventions using poetry, percussion and African hand drumming.


Gabrielle has shared her poetry at local, national and international events for over 30 years. She is the author of four poetry collections available from Ginninderra Press. Gabrielle is inspired by creative communities which celebrate diversity, activism and inclusion.
