South East Arts aims to strengthen creative people, projects & communities across South East NSW. We focus on three ways to foster creativity and connect the arts and our community: We provide professional development, mentoring, project advice and funding support to help artists and organisations grow their practice; We promote the creative people and projects shaping our region; and, We champion the importance of arts and culture across our three local government areas. Arts + Culture Across SOUTH EAST NSW About US South East Arts (SEA) is the Regional Arts Development Organisation (RADO) for the Bega Valley, Eurobodalla and Snowy Monaro council areas. We actively support the ongoing development of, and participation in, arts and culture throughout the NSW South East region. We also provide resources and advice on arts funding, sponsorship and donations. We support: Artists and Arts Organisations – helping them to become viable by achieving artistic and business goals. Communities – building capacity for communities to develop their own arts projects to create social connectedness and wellbeing Local Councils – working across a variety of council responsibilities to support and augment their work in areas including arts, tourism, economic development and community, cultural and strategic planning Promote We shine a light on the creative people and projects shaping our region — connecting artists with audiences, opportunities and each other. We promote arts and cultural events across the region through online and traditional media. We celebrate and amplify the creative achievements of people and groups from our region. Advocate We champion the importance of arts and culture across our three local government areas, ensuring creativity is central to regional identity, wellbeing and growth. We compile and provide information and research about local creatives, audiences, venues and organisations involved in arts and cultural development within the region and beyond. Image courtesy of the artist Current Strategic Projects First Nations We support the vibrant Aboriginal arts and cultural sector, ceative careers and businesses that exist in the land on which we work and live. We aim to share and strengthen First Nations culture, as well as develop new and emerging talent. We acknowledge Aboriginal people as the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and live and pay our respects to Elders both past and present. Cultural Tourism Connecting the arts and tourism sectors in our region enhances cultural opportunities for locals and visitors alike. We work closely with Local Governments, regional and state tourism bodies, local businesses and community groups to cross promote events and activities within the region and to audiences across Australia. Cultural Tourism is a strategic focus for the network of 15 Regional Arts Development Organisations in NSW. Arts + Culture Across SOUTH EAST NSW NSW REGIONAL ARTS DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION (RADO) NETWORK There are fifteen Regional Arts Development Organisations in NSW , each providing strategic direction for sustainable arts and cultural development in their region, and supported by the umbrella organisation, Regional Arts NSW. Our Boards include representatives from local government, tourism, education, arts councils and other community arts organisations and community members. Each employs an Executive Director and other staff who coordinate a cultural development program across the contributing local government areas in their region. We work across the state offering region-wide perspectives of the needs and opportunities for arts and cultural development and its benefits. These are sold occasionally via Etsy and Art Essence Gallery in Pambula. << Back to Contact Us Karen Wright Board Member Karen Wright is a dedicated mental health and women's advocate, based in the Bega Valley, Southern NSW, a region she has called home for many years. Having witnessed the resilience of her community through significant challenges, including the devastating 2020 bushfires, Karen has a deep understanding of the unique struggles faced by rural communities, from limited services and mental health stigma to geographical isolation and the tendency to be overlooked by policymakers. Karen is the Manager of the Bega Women's Resource Centre with Southern Women's Group, supporting women leaving domestic violence relationships, and offering a safe space for women to connect in our community. Karen has also made significant contributions to mental health policy as a member of the Lived Experience Advisory Group for the NSW Ministry of Health’s Towards Zero Suicides initiatives 2019-2022. Karen is a mad art lover, and you will see her popping up at most arts events across the Bega Valley. She is particularly passionate about the role of the arts in connecting rural communities, supporting mental health and reducing social isolation. In 2021, she was elected as the youngest member of Bega Valley Shire Council on a campaign based on community strengthening, and is the current Chair of the Bega Valley Suicide Prevention Action Network, driving community-focused mental health solutions. Karen holds a Bachelor of Business and a Master of Health Leadership and Management, further equipping her to lead and advocate for rural mental health initiatives. << Previous Back to Team & Board Next >>
