Job Title: ABORIGINAL ARTS OFFICER
Far South Coast NSW; Part-time (2 days per week)

South East Arts (SEA) is the leading Regional Arts Development Organisation (RADO) for the South East NSW region, supporting artists and arts organisation, cultural projects, and community initiatives. We work across three diverse local government areas:
Snowy Monaro Regional Council;
Bega Valley Shire Council; and
Eurobodalla Shire Council.
We actively support the ongoing development of and participation in arts and culture throughout the NSW South East region.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Aboriginal Arts Officer (AAO) position is funded through the Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Scheme (IVAIS) program of the Department of Arts (Federal). This is a designated Aboriginal employment opportunity.
The role of this position will be to:
Build and strengthen strategic engagement with Aboriginal visual artists within our region.
Explore and identify opportunities to enhance the development of viable Aboriginal creative enterprises and sustainable outlets, such as galleries, markets, and retail outlets.
Work in partnership with Local Aboriginal Lands Councils and appropriate organisations to support Aboriginal arts and cultural expression.
Assist with development of professional development workshops, arranging participants for workshops and logistics
Develop programming and strategies to amplify the Bundian Way Gallery, bringing fresh ideas to engage audiences and artists.
Support the First Nations exhibition at Spiral Gallery, including logistics, artist support, and event management.
Work with the SEA team to incubate and develop new projects, identifying funding opportunities and preparing grant applications.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Applicants must have:
Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities.
Skills in managing, monitoring, and reporting progress of arts/cultural projects.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency in word processing and web-based social media.
Ability to work independently under broad direction but within a strong team environment.
Current full driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
Experience working in Aboriginal arts and cultural development roles.
Ability to engage with the broad regional arts and cultural sector.
Ability to identify and source cultural training and skills development opportunities.
Understanding of the resources available for advice and support in legal matters relating to the cultural sector.
DUTIES
Assist and support professional development for Aboriginal artists.
Work with the community to develop Aboriginal arts and cultural practice.
Identify needs and organise a range of workshops, public programs, and mentorships to support skills development.
Identify potential funding sources.
Assist with applications for funding.
Prepare grant acquittals for current funding partners.
Other duties as necessary to support SEA objectives for the development of Aboriginal arts and artists in the South East region.

South East Arts office is in Merimbula, Far South Coast, NSW.
We work from Moruya once a month.
We support a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely as well as from the office upon negotiation.
