<< Back to Contact Us Craig Garrett Board Member Craig Garrett is a writer, community radio journalist and an international audio producer, born on Ngunnawal Country (Canberra), and he has lived in Naarm, Meanjin, Dili (Timor-Leste) and London. Since 2022 he has lived on Yuin Country in the Bega Valley. He has 30 years’ experience in the arts, publishing, community broadcasting, podcasting and not-for-profit sectors. He is a passionate multidisciplinary storyteller who provides independent spaces where people and communities tell their own stories in their own voices, and he has collaborated with Speaking Volumes (UK), the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA), the Digital Writers’ Festival, the QLD Poetry Festival, Ranu Welum (Indonesia) and Vulcana Women’s Circus. His fiction and nonfiction has appeared in both print and digital anthologies, journals and magazines; his short stories ‘Rat-boys’ and ‘Magpie’ were shortlisted for the Josephine Ulrick Literary Awards and Wet Ink prize (respectively); in 2020 his podcast London by Lockdown was a finalist in the ‘People’s Choice Podcast Awards’ (US); and in 2017 he won the CBAA ‘Excellence in News & Current Affairs’ Award. << Previous Back to Team & Board Next >>

<< Back to Contact Us Gabrielle Journey Jones Deputy Chair Gabrielle Journey Jones joined the Board of South East Arts in March 2024. She is from Māori and African American bloodlines and has lived on the Far South Coast NSW Yuin Country since 2018. Gabrielle is a Social Worker with special interest in governance and is the Executive Officer of SEWACS Budjangal (South East Women and Children’s Services Inc). Gabrielle has practiced intersectional feminist trauma-informed Social Work with a focus on creativity, advocacy and human rights for 20 years in Sydney. During the last 8 years, she has worked for community organisations and government agencies in Bega Valley and surrounding Local Government Areas. Gabrielle has both a Social Work private practice (supporting community sector workers and Charles Sturt University students with clinical supervision; and consultation services on organisational governance) and professional performing and creative arts career which combines therapeutic interventions using poetry, percussion and African hand drumming. Gabrielle has shared her poetry at local, national and international events for over 30 years. She is the author of four poetry collections available from Ginninderra Press. The Country Arts Support Program (CASP) is an annual small grants program funded by Create NSW and managed by South East Arts. Arts + Culture Across SOUTH EAST NSW Country Arts Support Program 2026 CASP recipients announced The Country Arts Support Program (CASP) is an annual small grants program funded by Create NSW and managed by South East Arts. CASP provides financial support to creatives across the Bega Valley, Eurobodalla and Snowy Monaro. Four group applications and five individual applications were successful in their 2026 applications. South East Arts received 43 applications in the 2026 round. Kate Bradbury, South East Arts Executive Director, appraised the 2026 CASP round as, “an incredibly strong field of diverse applications from across the Bega Valley, Eurobodalla and Snowy Monaro regions.” She stated, “Our selection panel was greatly impressed by the breadth of creativity and the calibre of applications. Although we can only allocate nine grants through CASP this year, we look forward to supporting all applicants with their professional practice through the support services, practical advice and advocacy that we provide to the South East NSW creative community.” This year’s CASP projects span community arts workshops, Pride community celebrations, textile innovation, bronze casting workshops, screen development workshops and both film and children’s television productions. South East Arts chair, Denise Ferris, reflected that “It is always a pleasure to support creative individuals and groups through the CASP grants. This year's CASP projects reflect the breadth of creative practice across our region and highlight the important role that South East Arts plays in fostering cultural development and community connection.” More about CASP 2026 CASP recipients CASP 2026 Andrew Poppleton Bronze sculpture workshop pilot A hands-on bronze sculpture workshop held in the Bega Valley. This pilot workshop will inform the delivery of ongoing bronze casting workshops in South East NSW. This will help safeguard this important event and ensure the resulting benefits to regional identity, cultural participation, and the creative economy continue. VIEW ALL CASP 2026 TEO (The Everyday Observer) Textile equipment, creation of work & exhibition Purchase of a tapestry loom, warp and yarn will support the development of a body of work translating drawn works into textile form. A key milestone in this journey has been the presentation of Giiyong Festival — the region’s first all-Aboriginal arts and cultural festival. Since 2018, the event has brought together annually more than 5,000 audience members and over 100 musicians, performers, artists and presenters, and has been delivered in partnership with Twofold Aboriginal Corporation and Eden Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC). Following this success, Twofold Aboriginal Corporation has now taken leadership of Giiyong Festival, ensuring that the event continues to grow as a First Nations-led cultural celebration. Past and Recent Achievements Our ongoing contributions to First Nations sector development include: Supporting Yangla Bugan (Sing on Country) — a highly successful, community-led Aboriginal language and cultural revitalisation program delivered on Djiringanj Country in the Bega Valley. Developed by Jirribitti Dreaming and Koori Rose, in collaboration with Aunty Ellen Mundy, the program builds on the success of Surfing with the Mob by incorporating language learning and song as central tools for cultural connection and community wellbeing. Curating exhibitions for the Bundian Way Aboriginal Gallery in Delegate, featuring artists from across the region and beyond. Supporting the creative and business development of the Djaadjawan Dancers, an Aboriginal women’s dance group based in Narooma. Engaging music organisation Grow the Music to deliver contemporary music residencies and performances at Wallaga Lake Koori Village, Eden, Bega and Narooma. Delivering songwriting and video projects at Eden and Bega High Schools, leading to the creation of original songs and music videos by young First Nations artists. Supporting emerging artists across disciplines including music, dance, writing, visual arts and design. Facilitating professional development opportunities for Aboriginal artists through workshops, creative development programs and mentorships. These initiatives reflect our continued focus on First Nations leadership, creative excellence and community connection. Back to all projects supported project: Snowy Monaro Art & Artisan Trail Artist / Org: South East Arts When: 2024 Project type: Cultural Tourism The Snowy Monaro Art & Artisan Trail is a digital flipbook , published by South East Arts in 2024, lists public art, artists and makers within the Snowy Monaro. Our Snowy Monaro region is home to a number of talented artists, performers and gifted community members who love getting together, swapping ideas, creative techniques and skills. "The Monaro and Snowy Mountains region is home to many talented creatives, from artists at every stage of their career to people in creative industries making beautiful artisan wares.' Snowy Monaro Art & Artisan Trail - cover South East Arts has developed the Snowy Monaro Art and Artisan Trail to shine a light on the creative thread running through the region. Cultural tourism was the essence behind starting the trail and to get artists and artisans thinking about how they could tap into the creative market. The trail aims to support those artists and artisans by providing a new audience for them and making locals and visitors more aware of this lesser-known feature of the region. A big part of the trail is public art that is accessible 24/7, such as the region’s many sculpture trails. These include trails at Lake Crackenback Resort, Bombala’s River Walk and Wildbrumby Distillery where artist Brad Spalding has put together a beautiful collection on the property. Cooma has several sculpture trails. Other public art includes murals and mosaics, many of which are in Jindabyne. The trail also features six artisans with a public offering, while the work of artists without a studio open to the public may be viewed at the Monaro Art Group Gallery and Raglan Gallery in Cooma, Jindabyne Art Gallery and Borderline Gallery in Delegate. << Previous Back to projects Next >>
